Carp was only a .213 hitter last season but hit .276 with 17 doubles, 12 HRs and 46 RBIs in 79 games with Seattle last season.
The move comes on the heels of the Red Sox placing a still-recovering Ryan Kalish on the 60-day disabled list. Kalish underwent successful shoulder surgery in the offseason.
