So NBA All-Star weekend is upon us. It once again begs the question "do we still need all-star games?"

We used look forward to all-star games as a way of seeing the players that we didn't get to see on a regular basis. Now with 24-hour sports on television seven days a week, the internet & smartphones, that part of the excitement is long gone.

I enjoy the skills competition on NBA All-Star weekend, but I have a little to no use for the game itself. It's much like watching a glorified practice, just like the NFL's Pro Bowl. I like what the NHL has tried to do in making their All-Star game a little different, having captains and letting them pick their own teams, but the game just like the NBA and NFL, is little more than a glorified practice.

At least none of those three have gone to the ridiculous length that MLB has by awarding home-field advantage in the World Series to the league that wins their All-Star game. I think the answer is pretty simple, when it comes to what should we do with you these games. More skills competitions and less games.

Oh yeah, and we should certainly not award home-field advantage based on the outcome of a meaningless game.
