Meet Roger Straub, Artist, Musician, Writer, and Creator of “Mac Comics”

We spoke with Roger Straub, an accomplished artist, musician and writer. He has often been described as multi-talented. He descends from a long family of artists, musicians, writers and naturalists. In the 1990’s he was a featured writer for a Connecticut based newspaper called “The Trumpeter“. The Trumpeter was published and owned by Leland Morgan. After a year went by as a writer, Straub was approached by Morgan to develop a comic for the newspaper. After considerable thought, “Mac O’Moodus” comics were published in 1999. the name was derived from the ancient Native Americans that once inhabited the territory, “The Machimoodus Indians“.

Soon, the comic’s popularity grew, and Straub’s “Mac Comics” began to appear in a variety of newspapers and publications across Connecticut and Rhode Island. In 2001, a book titled, “Mac O’Moodus Tickled Pink” was published and featured 120 of Straub’s comics. Over the years Mac’s comic fan base has grown and Straub’s work has been featured in several published and novelty formats. He currently lives with his wife Michelle and their three rescue dogs in Higganum, CT. His summer lake cottage/studio “Red Shed Studios” is located in Moodus, CT. His favorite leasure activities are fishing, ice fishing, art, music and playing carroms with his pals on Friday nights.
